Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest is currently out on loan with AC Milan. A prospect of huge potential when signed from Ajax back in 2020 for around €20 million, the player has since seen himself not reach any of those forecasted heights or quality.
Shipped off to AC Milan on loan for the 2022/2023 season, with the hopes of him achieving importance within the Italian side’s footballing plans, the loan moves has since proved to be rather fruitless. Not amongst the starters with the Rossoneri, the American fullback is now in a weird spot in terms of his future outlook.
AC Milan are understandably not invested enough in the player to trigger his permanent purchase option and neither are they interested in extending his loan deal with the Italian side. Upon his return, he is expected to not be in Xavi Hernandez’s plans either as a primary fullback.
FC Barcelona hope to recover the original amount they spent on acquiring the fullback from Ajax, but for that, they need potential suitors. As recent reports from SPORT suggest, however, this potential interest in the player may already be present within the Spanish La Liga itself.
Sevilla, Villarreal, Atletico, and Valencia are all clubs within the Spanish league that are interested in the fullback and Barcelona could maybe even use him as an asset to negotiate for players that those interested clubs currently may have that peak Barcelona’s own interest; such as Juan Foyth at Villarreal.
Barcelona have also received interest from MLS sides for Sergino Dest, but that move is reportedly an unlikely route right now for both club and player as he wants to stay in Europe and be at a club where he can show his quality and be considered an important piece of the team’s plans as well. If all else fails, however, the MLS may end up being the only route left to pursue.
