Sergino Dest is one of the players currently away from FC Barcelona on loan. After a few underwhelming seasons at Barcelona and AC Milan, the USA international is once again putting in impressive performances in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven.

He has performed for the Dutch side to such a high level that PSV are already considering availing the option to buy him for €10 million at the end of the season.

The player himself appeared in an interview, which has been reported by Mundo Deportivo, and his responses in that interview hint that the defender is also ready to join the Dutch side permanently.

While he did not directly address the issue of a permanent transfer, he talked about his time at Barcelona in a past voice, suggesting his time at the Catalan club to be already over:

“For me, playing at Barcelona was very special because my big idol, Ronaldinho, also played there. I really enjoyed my time there. I’m grateful to have been able to play for such a historic club.”

While he named Ronaldinho as his idol, he also recalled himself training with Lionel Messi at the club:

“I played with him for a year. You also learn a lot from just watching him… although it’s another thing if you can do what he does.”

Dest also shared his reasons for joining PSV Eindhoven in the summer, and his comments showed he was happy with his decision to join the Eredivisie side, despite the rivalry that PSV and his previous club Ajax Amsterdam have:

“Honestly, at first, I didn’t have the intention of returning to the Netherlands, but suddenly I had a really good feeling. I needed the warmth that the people at PSV gave me at this point in my career. I needed to feel good again and truly find myself at home. From there, I was able to show myself again.”

Why didn’t I return to Ajax? I don’t really have an opinion on that. There was a new board, and they decide. I like hearing that many people think Ajax should have brought me back.”

Dest shining in the Netherlands will definitely be good news for Barcelona. While PSV might get him at a discount price of €10 million, Barcelona cannot complain too much as they do not have a place for him in the line-up if they can get Joao Cancelo beyond this season.
