Given their current issues with financial fair play, it is safe to assume that FC Barcelona can not simply make bold signings. While the Catalan giants always have the possibility to sign top players, they still must play it safe. Any major signing gone wrong, especially in this sensitive stage of their history, could be catastrophic for Barcelona.
At the same time, however, it is also true that the Catalan giants need a top-level pivot. Throughout this day, Barcelona have been unable to even remotely replicate the stability and control that club legend Sergio Busquets was able to give to the team.
However, despite their best attempts, the Catalan giants seem to be struggling with finding elite alternatives to come in. Joshua Kimmich, for instance, was a priority target but the negotiations have already stalled with him due to economic differences between both parties.
In his stead, and as a cheaper alternative, SPORT reports that Barcelona are still on the tail of Javi Guerra. The 21-year-old midfielder from Valencia continues to be a good choice in the eyes of Barcelona director Deco, and he continues to inquire about the player from his club.
Moreover, SPORT also reports that Barcelona already have a rough idea of how much the player would end up costing as well. More or less close to his market value, Valencia would be willing to part ways with the talented young midfielder for roughly €20 million, an amount that Barcelona would be willing to spare.
Currently with an active contract until 2027, the talented youngster is seen as a very versatile option as well. Capable of playing anywhere along the midfield zone, he mainly played as a pivot this season and that could be ideal for Barcelona given that they specifically wish to reinforce that position.
It remains to be seen what develops out of this situation, but Guerra is a prospect worth keeping an eye on. However, other top targets are also still on the list for Barcelona to pursue, and they could choose to go after them as well.
For now, Guido Rodriguez arriving as a free agent is also an expected occurrence, an operation Barcelona rely on primarily for adding depth to the team.
