Barcelona set to receive a financial boost from potential sales of three former players this summer – report

FC Barcelona need a significant injection of funds to meet their FFP needs and to ensure the long-term economic viability of the club. For this purpose, the club has already activated a lever this summer and has also sold some of its players, including Ousmane Dembele, Franck Kessie, and Nico Gonzalez.

In addition to these sources, there is another source of funds that can be obtained by the club in the coming days. This source is the transfer percentages that Barcelona have over some of their former players whom they have sold while retaining a part of their rights.

Three players whose move can generate cash for Barcelona

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, there are three players who can move in the remaining days of this summer transfer window, Jean Clair Todibo, Juan Miranda, and Sergio Akieme.

Sergio Akieme:

The player with the highest probability of a move this summer is Sergio Akieme, the former Barcelona B left-back. Clubs like Nice and Burnley are interested in the 25-year-old, who will also see his wages increase significantly with such a move.

Barcelona sold the player for €3.5 million in 2020, but retained 10% of his rights in case of a future sale. Almeria has already rejected a €7.5 million bid for him from Betis, and it is estimated that the player would move for around €10 million. Barcelona would get €700,000 in such a case.

Jean Clair Todibo:

Todibo has a number of big European clubs interested in him, including Manchester United and PSG, and his transfer operation can go on till the last day of the transfer window.

Nice are asking €30 million for him, and Barcelona have a right on 20% of any future gains on his transfer. Thus, Barcelona can get around €7-8 million from his sale.

Juan Miranda:

Juan Miranda, currently playing for Real Betis, is also likely to be sold this summer as the Verdiblanco urgently need funds and need a big sale. However, Betis would get only around half of any fee they get for the defender, as Barcelona have the right to get 40% of any proceeds from his sale.

While the exact amount that they will get depends on what Fulham will be willing to pay for him, Barcelona are expected to get around €5 million from his sale if his transfer fee falls in the region of €13.5 million.

Thus, Barcelona can get a significant economic boost if these players are transferred this summer. The Catalans can use these funds to register the remaining players with La Liga, and these funds may also help them get more players before the summer window closes.
