Revenge is often a sweet feeling in football, even for clubs like FC Barcelona. Long-time rivalries can often provide great satisfaction whenever one of the two opponents finds their victory as well. However, even for individual players at FC Barcelona, there are some old scores to be settled.
It is always interesting to see that football has a way of giving everyone a chance to redeem themselves. If not at the club, the same sport offers them the opportunity to get that redemption on the international stage. That redemption is what Barcelona star Jules Kounde will be aiming for in his next appearance for the French National team.
As highlighted by SPORT, 25-year-old Barcelona and French defender Jules Kounde will be taking on Spain and Nico Williams in his next outing. The first semi-final of the European Championship will see France be pitted against the Spanish team, and there is a very personal score that Kounde will want to settle.
The last time Nico Williams and Jules Kounde met in a game where the Spaniard was operating as a left-winger and his direct opponent was Kounde playing as a right-back was the clash between FC Barcelona and Athletic Club in the Copa Del Ray last season.
The game took place in January of this year and it saw Nico Williams get the best of his French marker on many occasions. Ultimately, the Basque side ended up winning 4-2 against Barcelona in a game in which Nico Williams ended up scoring as well as causing a lot of havoc for the Catalan club to deal with.
Kounde was unable to deal with the explosiveness of Williams then, but he will be hoping to manage that this time around. The Frenchman has been exceptional and consistent for his country in this tournament, and Nico Williams has been exactly the same for Spain.
However, it must also be remembered that this may be Kounde’s last chance in a long time to face off against Nico Williams. That is because there is certainly a possibility that they could both be teammates at Barcelona for the upcoming season. As it stands, the Catalan club will reportedly do whatever it takes to bring their key summer target to the club.
