It is a key priority for FC Barcelona to prioritize the continuity of their youth. La Blaugrana are hardly in a position to be complacent with the talent that they already have. That is why, across the various youth teams within Barcelona, the club is looking to secure the futures of their most promising candidates.
The recent loss of Marc Guiu to Chelsea comes as a major blow, given that the young striker was one of the most promising talents in the subsidiary. However, even if Barcelona have lost one striker with great potential, they are now adamant to make sure that another does not slip away either.
As brought forward by SPORT, Barcelona have almost everything in place to renew 16-year-old Oscar Gistau. Considered a ‘9’ of the future for FC Barcelona, the young striker has exploded across various youth teams and the club now looks to reward him with his first Barcelona contract that will keep him with the club until 2027.
Having joined four years ago, Gistau is still only a Cadet by age. However, that is why his progression is quite a pleasant surprise given that he is excelling with both the Juvenil teams as well.
Under both Pol Planes and Oscar Lopez, Gistau has found a level of regularity this season and his goal-scoring form is there to consolidate and justify the selection made by the coaches.
A fast, agile, and relentless player, Gistau is highlighted as a complete modern striker. Always determined to continue pressing non-stop if he has to, the player is also quite lethal as a finisher. Known to be both technically and physically gifted, he comes as the complete package.
SPORT managed to get a hold of his former coach, Ivan Carrasco, who was asked to define the youngster as a player. Carrasco highlighted his qualities and described him as a hybrid between a traditional center forward and a false nine:
“Oscar Gistau is a very complete number nine, a hybrid between a traditional center forward and a false nine. He can be a reference for direct play, capable of receiving and protecting the ball, but he is also a very associative attacker who knows how to link up and combine with the midfielders… a forward with great precision in finishing both when arriving in and being in the box. One of his standout qualities is his excellent ability to get into space; he always positions himself well and avoids being caught offside.”
Even for the player and his entourage, SPORT reveals that Barcelona was the only club taken into consideration. Despite his talents being clear enough to attract other European interest, the player is committed to staying at Barcelona and the club believes he has the potential to break through to the first team at some point.
