Despite being a crucial cog of Xavi’s system, Frenkie de Jong has seen his future at the Catalan club become increasingly uncertain. Recent reports indicated that the Blaugranes were looking to lower the Dutchman’s wages.
As per those speculations, they have reportedly offered him a new contract with a lower salary, which they expect the midfielder to accept and if Frenkie does not accept this new contract, the Catalans will be open to selling him for a good price.
Amid such uncertainty regarding his future at the club, De Jong appeared in the press conference ahead of the Napoli clash and harshly rebuked the media for spreading false news about his wages and situation at Barcelona.
Now, in the latest update on this matter, SPORT claims that Frenkie’s agent, Ali Dursun, had a one-and-a-half-hour-long meeting with Deco in a well-known hotel in Barcelona.
The two individuals had been looking to meet as they believed such a meeting was essential in the situation that has arisen. While De Jong’s anger had mostly been directed against the media, Deco understands that its impact can also be felt by the club.
The club is worried that this episode can generate distrust among the two parties, especially as De Jong’s entourage saw how Barcelona had used the media to push him for a move to Manchester United during the summer of 2022.
However, this latest summit between Deco and the player’s agent was mostly positive and cordial. Barcelona want to convey their confidence and support to the midfielder, while Frenkie himself has made it clear that he is happy at the Catalan club.
Furthermore, this meeting was nothing out of the blue, as the two parties have met frequently in recent days, and the agent has already visited Barcelona on more than one occasion.
For now, both the club and the player want to continue their relationship. However, it remains to be seen how this matter develops further, as there are already several top European clubs interested in acquiring the services of the 26-year-old Dutchman.
