Eric Garcia, who has returned to Barcelona after a remarkable loan stint with Girona, is one of the Blaugrana players who has been called up by Spain for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games.

The defender is already fully focused on this competition, as he has already joined Santi Denia’s team, and will be able to work under the new Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick, only for a very brief time before the next season starts, with the Olympics football final scheduled to take place on 9th August, only 8 days before the La Liga game between Barcelona and Valencia.

But even with his participation in the Olympics and a predicted lack of involvement in the upcoming preseason, SPORT reports that his situation at the Catalan club is going to change, and he is highly likely to be a Barcelona first-team player for the next season.

With the injury suffered by Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Pau Cubarsi are going to be untouchable players for Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Inigo Martinez, who was not able to play much in his first season at the Catalan club, has his future somewhat uncertain as he will have to be registered with La Liga again this summer. Similarly, Clement Lenglet is not wanted and is almost certain to leave the Blaugrana club this summer.

In such a situation, Barcelona will have to make a decision between Eric Garcia and Inigo Martinez. One factor that goes in the favour of the latter of these players is his left-footedness, while his salary and lack of registration might tempt the Catalans to part ways with him.

On the other hand, Eric Garcia is returning from a very good season with Girona, where he was a key player for Michel and helped his team qualify for the Champions League. His versatility is also highly valued, as he can also play on the flanks, while also having proven his ability to play as a midfield pivot.

The upcoming Olympics can further highlight the level at which Garcia is playing, and make the decision easier for Barcelona.
