French defender looking forward to terminating his contract with Barcelona

Samuel Umititi arrived at FC Barcelona with big dreams. From being considered one of the best players in his position to a rarely available bench option. Things went downhill rapidly in the past few years and now he’s on the verge of a contract termination looking to restart his career at a new club.

It all started before the 2018 world cup when the French international had to make a decision about his knee injury. The club medical staff advised him to undergo surgery and rehabilitation, which would make him miss the world cup. 

But the then-star defender decided to go through a conservative treatment method. The treatment was a short-term solution. He recovered ahead of the World Cup and even won it, but his knee has never been the same since.

The Frenchman has only played 35 matches after the 2018-19 campaign in total for the club and the country. The major reason why he has not seen much action is his knee issues. Plagued with multiple relapses, he quickly became out of favor in the Catalan side.

His monstrous wages for his limited availability kept any possible offers away. He agreed to a wage cut in January 2022 and was loaned to Lecce in the Summer of 2022. According to the latest reports from Diario Sport, Umititi might terminate his contract with FC Barcelona.

His current contract runs till 2026, but he reportedly wants to restart his career somewhere in France or Italy. La Blaugrana are willing to extend their support to him in a possible way to materialize the termination and the French defender wants the best for the club as well.
