From Europe to South America; Congratulations galore to Messi

The World Cup in Qatar concluded itself last Sunday, with Lionel Messi and his companions from Argentina crawling to victory against an ever-threatening France team led by Kylian Mbappe.

Ending with the Albicelestes winning on penalties, and Lionel Messi finally accomplishing the one task that eluded him throughout the entirety of his illustrious footballing career; lifting the World Cup.

From the Spanish realms of Europe to the Brazilian edges of South America, allies and rivals alike have sent Lionel Messi applause and congratulations on his achievement. Both current teammates and prior teammates alike have come forth with positive messages and public posts.

Former club FC Barcelona posted a picture of Messi with the caption: “Proud of you”, and current Barcelona players Jordi Alba, Sergi Roberto, and even youngster Pedri all chimed in respectively to applaud the 35-year old Argentine hero, stating: “Congratulations Leo, football owed you this,” alongside similar messages.

Current Barcelona manager Xavi also spoke on television regarding Messi, stating: “Messi must be congratulated because he already has the World Cup that he could not miss in his career. He is the best player of all time.” Former Barcelona captain, Carles Puyol, with whom Messi shared a dressing room, also added a picture of Messi on social media with the caption, “The best”.

Former teammate and Uruguay player Luis Suarez also came out to give congrats to the Argentine captain, with whom he completed arguably one of football history’s most lethal and effective attacking trios alongside Neymar Jr from 2014-2015 onwards, through a video call and adding a post with a message in which he classifies him as the best in the world.

Current PSG teammate Neymar Jr, albeit not as explicitly expressive as the Uruguayan, also sent out a message of congratulations, posting a picture of Messi with the World Cup and writing “Congratulations, brother.”

Lionel Messi now completes his footballing trophy cabinet as a player while simultaneously having completed a surreal run in the World Cup 2022 individually as well, having scored 7 goals, assisting thrice, and coming away with the World Cup Golden Ball as well to add to his already magnificent trophy haul.
