Currently, FC Barcelona have Robert Lewandowski as the focal point of their attack, and as one of the biggest stars in the team. The Pole has been a key player for Xavi ever since his arrival two years ago, and while his form led to some doubts earlier in the season, he is now once again getting back to his best version.
However, already being 35 years of age, it is clear that the veteran forward has only a few years left to play at the highest level, and it would be prudent for the Catalans to start planning about life after the Pole’s departure.
In this regard, one of the dreams of Barcelona President Joan Laporta is to have the Norwegian striker, Erling Haaland, replace Lewandowski in the squad. The Manchester City ace is one of the very best players in the world right now, and his addition can take any team several notches higher.
However, considering the current state of finances at Barcelona, acquiring the striker would be very difficult. Nevertheless, the Catalans still have the advantage that the player reportedly holds the Blaugranes in high regard.
This was also evident from comments made by a former scout who has served both FC Barcelona and Manchester City, and who happens to be the father of former Barcelona player Bojan Krkić, in an interview reproduced by SPORT.
Regarding Haaland’s priorities, Bojan Krkić Sr. said: “Erling Haaland prioritizes Barcelona. If he has to choose between Barcelona and Madrid, he would go to Barcelona.”
Furthermore, he also shared the hope that the Catalans will be able to get over most of their financial problems in the coming months:
“Barcelona is recovering little by little. They are going to return to Camp Nou and that changes a lot in terms of marketing and merchandising. Then investors appear, player sales…”
Krkic went on to argue how Haaland can possibly arrive at the Catalan club in 2025, and pointed out the fact that the player had stopped at Barcelona first before visiting Madrid when he embarked on a tour of Spain some months ago.
These comments come from an individual whom one can expect to have a clear bias towards his former club. However, as he has worked as a scout for both Barcelona and Manchester City, one can expect him to have links with both clubs.
If there is any truth in his statements, Culers have cause to rejoice as it can lead to them getting one of the most lethal forwards in the game joining their team, and bringing Barcelona back among the elite teams in Europe.
