Enric Masip, adviser to the president of FC Barcelona and a member of the technical secretariat of the club responded to the recent statements of Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Frenkie de Jong incriminated the club’s management regarding the public disclosure of contractual details in his recent interview. He said that the club’s hierarchy tried to push him out of the club but he wants to continue at the club for another 8 or 10 years.
Frenkie: “One day a newspaper published the details of my contract. I didn’t disclose it and only one other party knew about it, so it must have been the club that did.”
Frenkie: “I blame these people [those at Barca who wanted him out], but I have nothing to do with them. Yes, they are Barcelona for me because they lead the club. But I don’t see them when I’m at the club. I have nothing to do with them in my daily life.”
Frenkie: “I am very happy in Barcelona. When I play it’s great and in terms of living here, life is perfect. I see myself at Barça for as long as possible. I personally hope for another 8 or 10 years.”
Enric Masip issued a statement via Twitter in which he defended the president of Barcelona and assured that the president was one of the advocates of the continuity of the Dutch Midfielder despite the delicate financial situation of the club.
Enric Masip: “I can say with knowledge and facts that the person from the club who had defended the continuity of Frenkie De Jong the most was President Laporta. He never considered selling him, even despite the poor situation of the club”
Following the recent statements, the tension between the two camps is growing but the player wants to stay at the club and he has expressed this in the same interview.
