The head coach’s position at FC Barcelona is subject to a lot of uncertainty at the moment as Xavi Hernandez has announced that he will be stepping down from this position after this season and the Catalan club has not yet finalized a name to replace him for the next season.

The Catalan hierarchy is still looking at several candidates to succeed Xavi on the bench, but as he will be leaving the club at the end of the season, it is very likely that Xavi will not have any say in the choice of his successor.

However, as SPORT has noted, the former midfielder still made clear the characteristics that he wants to see in the manager that will replace him at Barcelona as he was talking to the media ahead of the match against Getafe. In this regard, the head coach commented:

“I don’t know. In the end, it’s Deco and the president who have to decide. He should have Barça DNA.”

Xavi is one of the players who spent almost all of his playing career at the Catalan club, barring the final few seasons in Qatar. Few players reach the status that the former midfielder enjoyed at Barcelona, as he was one of the key components of one of the best teams assembled in the club’s history under Pep Guardiola.

That team clearly showed the presence of the Barcelona DNA in them, and no other player symbolized this DNA more than Xavi and Iniesta, who were the main conductors in the middle of the field. Thus, it is clear to understand why Xavi wants his successor to have the “Barca DNA”.

However, as he himself also mentioned, this is now a task for Deco and Laporta to get his replacement. The fans will definitely be hoping they get another coach with the Barcelona DNA, but Laporta might have other things in mind as he is a big fan of the German school of coaching.
