The last few days and weeks have not been the best for FC Barcelona. The days have been filled with negative news coming out of the club, the most notable of them being Xavi’s announcement of leaving Barcelona at the end of the season.
Another sad news that Barcelona fans had to endure in recent days was the injury to Alejandro Balde. While the fullback was not having the best of times with the first team this season, the injury suffered by the youngster can have negative implications for his entire career.
The injury was so severe that surgery was recommended for the 20-year-old as the most preferable method of treatment going forward by the first team’s medical services led by Dr. Pruna.
However, with the squad already very thin, and Ter Stegen and Gavi also out for a long time, Balde’s surgery could have further sidelined a very important member of the team.
However, Mundo Deportivo reports that Xavi and his staff still prioritized that Balde goes through surgery as it was the best option for the youngster’s long-term future, despite the fact that this would have made things difficult for Xavi.
If Balde had decided not to go through surgery and opted for conservative treatment, he would have lost most of his speed, explosiveness, and power, the attributes that make him such a useful player to have on the pitch.
The injury he suffered against Athletic Club is considered to be even more serious than the one suffered by Ansu Fati, which practically ruined the latter’s budding career at the highest level.
Now, the decision has been made that Balde will go through surgery this week, and thus miss the rest of the season for the Blaugranes. Hopefully, the treatment goes as planned, and he can return to his best when he feels fit enough in the coming months.
