In the last month or so, the FC Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has taken the world of football by storm. The defender has not only made a place for himself in the first team of one of the biggest clubs in the world but has also shown that he can perform at the highest level in Europe.
Cubarsi’s spectacular rise in just a matter of weeks is no doubt a source of great happiness for Barcelona and its fans. However, this rapid change has also led to the problem of the inconsistency between the player’s status in the team and his contract.
The club’s Sporting Department is not oblivious to this change in the defender’s status, and according to MARCA, has already put a new contract on the table for the defender. As Cubarsi is still only 17 years old and Barcelona have to follow some special rules regarding his contract, he will be offered only a two-year contract at this point.
With this intermediate contract, Barcelona are not only looking to bring the youngster’s wages more in line with his status in the team but are also looking to increase his release clause, which is currently too low for the club’s liking.
Once he turns 18 years of age next January, Barcelona will offer him a full professional contract, which is expected to bind the player with the Catalan club till 2030 or 2031. The club has not yet decided on what his release clause will be in this future contract, but it can reach up to €1 billion.
As things stand, negotiations for this future contract have not yet taken place, but neither of the sides is concerned about their future association.
FC Barcelona consider him to be a cornerstone for their future defense, along with Ronald Araujo, while the player also wants to remain at the club, though he wants a salary that represents his status as a first-team player and a full international.
