A lot of Barcelona players have enjoyed a renaissance under Hansi Flick and have rediscovered their mojo. The likes of Raphinha have enjoyed a transformative effect on his fortunes compared to his situation under Xavi Hernandez.

One player who looks reborn in this new system is 21-year-old midfield start Pedri. The Canary Islander has struggled for the past two or three seasons due to numerous injuries that inhibited his continuity in the first team.

While Pedri’s potential and ability were never up for debate, he looked like he lacked the confidence to play at his best level. The thought of an injury playing at the back of your mind never allows a footballer to truly express himself or herself on the pitch.

Following his impressive turnaround under Hansi Flick, Barcelona are negotiating with his entourage on a new contract to extend his current deal and tie down his long-term future at the club, as per Spanish outlet SPORT.

Pedri’s current contract at the club expires in 2026 and Barcelona will be keen to hand him a new long-term deal. Labeled as a ‘special‘ player by Hansi Flick, Pedri is the present and the future of the club, and at 21, he has one of the highest ceilings in the game.

When Pedri plays, he makes the entire team look so much better. He is the orchestrator from midfield, pulling all the strings and deciding when the team needs to quicken an attack and when they need to slow it down.

At just 21, he has mastered the art of La Pausa, something that Andres Iniesta and Xavi excelled in during their prime. Of late, he has also added goals to his locker and is often seen getting on the scoresheet with an impressive finish.

Extending Pedri’s contract is a no-brainer for Barcelona. He deserves to stay at the club for a decade if not more. The club will hope that his injury issues are a thing of the past and that the Spaniard can play a full season and showcase his true potential. Let’s wait and see how it goes.
