Talent needs time to be nurtured, and Barcelona understands this better than most. The Catalan club realizes the importance of incorporating young talent early in order to familiarise it with their way of playing and understanding football.
With the winter transfer window right around the corner, Barcelona has certain priorities. Despite their urgent need for depth in the pivot position, they are focused on the arrival of Vitor Roque.
Brazilian Priority
The 18-year-old Brazilian forward awaits the green light from Barcelona and La Blaugrana remains committed to giving it. However, this carves open the path for another giant to strike.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s focus on Roque and inability to pursue their desired pivot have opened the way for English Premier League outfit Arsenal to make an initiative towards getting Royal Antwerp’s Arthur Vermeeren.
A Belgian talent, Vermeeren is currently only 18 years old. Having been on Barça’s radar for quite a while, he was considered a real prospect. However, despite positive initial developments, Barcelona may just have to let themselves get beat to his signature.
English Takeover
Arsenal are reportedly heavily interested in him as well, and Mikel Arteta is leading the charge in a way. The Spanish coach and former Barcelona player truly appreciates Vermeeren’s capabilities and style of play.
Reportedly reminding him of the Barcelona essence, something the coach has implemented at Arsenal, he believes the player would perfectly fit with the Gunners in their team alongside Declan Rice.
Other European interest
While Barcelona wishes to urgently get a pivot as well, their priority remains absolute in January. Vitor Roque is their goal for the winter window, and they will do their best to ensure his arrival. Arsenal will likely pounce on this opportunity of no resistance to snatch up the Belgian gem.
However, apart from Barcelona, other teams are also invested in the youngster. As per MD, Liverpool, Man United, West Ham, and Brighton are some of the other English suitors. Moreover, European eyes such as those of Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Ajax as well as Monaco remain ever-vigilant.
