FC Barcelona secured a momentous victory over Atletico Madrid last night which keeps the Catalans truly well and alive in the race for La Liga.
One of the most influential players on the pitch in this match was the Polish striker Robert Lewandowski. After the match, Xavi claimed that this was one of the best performances from the Polish forward since making the move to Barcelona, as he scored one goal and provided two assists.
As SPORT has reported, the striker also spoke to the media after the match, and one of the questions put to him was about the change that has taken place since Xavi’s announcement of leaving the club at the end of the season.
In response to this question, Lewandowski highlighted the change in the team’s training regime:
“I think in the last few weeks; two, three, or four weeks, we’ve changed the training a bit, more intensity, and physically now I also feel very good, and I believe my friends [referring to his teammates] feel the same.”
The former Bayern Munich player also recognized that Barcelona have a very important period coming ahead, and was sure the team will step up for it:
“But we want to take a step forward. Now, for us, after the international break, it’s a very, very important moment. We play La Liga directly, then we have 10 days off and the Champions League. We want to win but also play better.”
Fortunately for Barcelona, Lewandowski showed his best version in a key game for his side, and the Catalans will be hoping he can keep this level up for the upcoming stretch of important games.
The Blaugranes are still in the fight for the Champions League and La Liga, and with the performance put on display last night, no one can count them out for these two important titles.
