The current FC Barcelona team has a strong representation of La Masia’s talents in its ranks, and especially with all the injuries suffered by the first-team players this season, the La Masia graduates have played an important part in keeping Barcelona competitive.
Before making the leap to the first team, a significant number of talents from La Masia have to go through Barcelona Atletic. Thus, they learn important lessons at this stage of their development, and Barcelona Atletic also deserves high credit for preparing youngsters to play such an important part in the first team.
Marquez compares Yamal with Messi
As SPORT has reported, the Barcelona Atletic coach, Rafa Marquez, recently gave an interview to a Mexican outlet. The highlight of this interview was Marquez’s comments about Lamine Yamal.
Marquez was full of praise for Lamine Yamal, as he compared him to Messi:
“Lamine Yamal is a Messi case. They are special. He has exceptional qualities. He’s the neighborhood kid, the one who can dribble, the one who surpasses opponents. He’s a talent… I don’t know if he will become like Messi, but he is special like him.”
Yamal came directly from Juvenil A
Lamine Yamal has been different from other La Masia talents in the aspect that he made his first-team debut before playing with Barcelona Atletic and came to the first team directly from Juvenil A. But Yamal did play three games with Barcelona Atletic in the final phases of the last season.
However, Yamal does not seem to have missed much by not playing with Barcelona Atletic, as he has been an electrifying player for Xavi this season and has already broken several records at this stage of his career. Hopefully, he can carry on like this, and grow on to become one of the best wingers in the entire world.
