FC Barcelona faced Tottenham for the Joan Gamper Trophy last night in what turned out to be a thrilling match for the home side fans. Barcelona had fallen down 2-1 by the time the first half ended and were unable to equalize till the last ten minutes of normal time, after which they went on to win the match 4-2.
Despite this victory in the last friendly match of this pre0season, this match could have ended up costing Barcelona dearly in the medium term.
One of the best defenders in the Barcelona team, Ronald Araujo, felt discomfort in his right leg in the first half and asked Xavi to substitute him. This event led to fears that Araujo had suffered from a serious muscular injury.
However, there is good news for Barcelona fans in this regard, as Araujo has not suffered from a serious injury. As SPORT reports, the player will be available to Xavi for the start of the 2023-24 La Liga campaign as Barcelona face Getafe this Sunday.
The report further mentions that the defender participated in the training session on Wednesday and has continued with the positive assessment that the club’s medical team had at the end of the match last night.
Thus, Araujo will be ready to lead Barcelona to another La Liga title by participating in the opening tie of the campaign after having helped the club win the league title last season. He, along with Kounde, Christensen, and Balde, was a main component of the Barcelona backline, which had a historic season defensively.
Araujo’s fitness would definitely be welcome news for Xavi, not only because Araujo is one of the fixed starters in his lineup but also because Barcelona are also missing two other center-backs, Andreas Christensen and Inigo Martinez.
