As per reports from Italy, AS Roma have become a major contender in trying to acquire the services of Dutch and current FC Barcelona forward Memphis Depay and they hope to do so without any additional transfer fees or cost.

Currently, the Catalans have made demands of around €2 million in order for Roma to acquire the Dutchman for themselves, but the Italian club have other plans in mind. They would much rather go through with either a letter of freedom given he has 6 months left on his contract or either bring Depay in on a 6-month loan.

According to Sport, Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the forward and has already inquired regarding the possibility of having him added to the Roman club’s roster, and believes it to be a signing in line with other free agents that the club has recruited recently such as Dutchman Gini Wijnaldum and the Argentinean Paulo Dybala.

It was reported earlier that a potential move to Juventus fell through due to Memphis’s high salary demands to join, and while his financial demands are still a huge hurdle to overcome in these negotiations, the reports also suggest that he would be willing to come to a reasonable common ground, given that he becomes a key part of the project which he will join. Supposedly his agency and the representatives from Roma are making positive progress over the matter thus far.

Despite interest from the Premier League clubs as well (such as that from Manchester United), it is evident that at the moment the sale and vacancy of Memphis’s sizable salary are all major objectives for Barcelona and the Catalans will look to the most plausible financial offer that they can possibly extract from this operation before offloading the Dutch forward.
