The world of football revolves a lot around financing these days, and FC Barcelona are well aware of that. In the case of the Catalan giants, a rather noticeable lack of spending ability has inflicted a lot of harm. For this reason, it is crucial for Barcelona to continue finding ways to keep some sort of revenue stream consistent.
While the sale of assets or ‘levers’ have been the most utilized means of bringing in the millions for Barcelona, there are also other routes worth exploring. Player sales, for instance, could also be quite the opportunity for the club. However, with their squad already depleted, it is not a route they currently want to take.
Instead, they look towards other former stars who could still bring in a decent injection of cash. One such former player, as highlighted by SPORT, is Juan Miranda. Currently a player for La Liga side Real Betis, Miranda could offer Barça some relief.
As it stands, Barcelona have a sell-on clause in the 23-year-old fullback’s current deal with Betis. Consequently, it came as great news to Barcelona when even the most reliable reports began to link the player to AC Milan.
However, the Catalan giants may have to face even more adversity it seems. While AC Milan hope to sign Miranda despite Theo Hernandez’s elite quality, they also hope to stall this operation long enough for Miranda to become a free agent in the summer.
With an active sell-on clause of 40%, Barcelona can not afford to lose Miranda on a free transfer. This would make their entire sell-on clause invalid and basically of no use to La Blaugrana.
Romano did previously claim that a summer move was the original idea for when to bring in Miranda for Milan, but that has since been shifted to the ongoing winter window.
As of right now, Barcelona are hoping that the signing of Miranda can be wrapped up by Milan sooner or later. For Miranda, however, the first objective remains to be beating Barcelona in the upcoming game. Both Betis and Barça are set to clash in La Liga soon enough.
