Barcelona have already competed in three of the four competitions that they are a part of this season. The Catalan giants have already taken part in La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, and the Copa Del Ray. Now, however, Barcelona move towards their fourth competition this season.

Interestingly, this competition will yield a tournament winner before the other three. The competition in question is none other than the Spanish Super Cup, and Barcelona now travel to Saudi Arabia in order to compete against three other strong opponents.

However, the importance of this competition goes beyond just the prestige and financial benefits. For Barcelona, this tournament has previously represent many importance changes in the club’s progression.

According to AS, Barcelona now revisit this tournament that previously was supposed to be the foundation of a ‘new era’. However, those performances and displays showcased then have not carried forward as Barça would have hoped. Already this season, the Catalan giants are beginning to fall behind.

Last time around, Barcelona managed to overcome none other than Real Madrid in the final. La Blaugrana managed to emerge as convincing 3-1 victors and carried that confidence forward as they triumphed in La Liga as well. Since then, however, that same level of quality and confidence has not been consistent.

Barcelona continues to show glimpses of their best level, but they are rather brief. Even Barbastro, their opponents in the Copa Del Ray, became a much more complicated opponent than they needed to be. However, the Champions League does offer a good chance against a struggling Napoli, but even Barcelona themselves are quite unreliable.

Ultimately, the Spanish Super Cup could once again be transformative. It could either help Barcelona understand where their weaknesses truly lie, or help them rekindle something within themselves that could prove to be crucial for the rest of the season up ahead.
