Julian Araujo’s signing has been one of the most peculiar pieces of business undertaken by FC Barcelona in recent years. The Mexican arrived at Barcelona in January this year, but his registration with La Liga was missed by a few seconds, making him ineligible to play for the Catalan club in the second half of the last season.
While the Barcelona fans were unable to see the Mexican defender on the pitch for this reason, they could not help but notice him when he went viral for his pink-dyed hair and his active involvement in the league-winning celebrations, despite playing no part in winning that title.
Araujo to grow under Pimienta
Araujo spent a part of this summer pre-season with Barcelona before the Catalans decided that the best way forward for him was to join another side with lesser pressure to get him acclimatized with the European and Spanish game.
Thus, he was sent on loan to Las Palmas to play under the tutelage of the former Barcelona Atletic coach, Garcia Pimienta.
Pimienta has adopted a possession-oriented style at Las Palmas, and this was seen as a favorable next step in Araujo’s career by Barcelona. Araujo has been impressive in his performances with Las Palmas and has already established himself as a starter at the right flank for Pimienta.
Making strides with Las Palmas
Araujo made his debut with Las Palmas in the second game of the season against Valencia and, since then, has become an immovable part of the team. He has already started four games and appeared in five.
According to SPORT, Pimienta is delighted with his game and physicality. Las Palmas have also been getting into good form for the last few weeks. They have won three of their last four games.
Currently, the fullback is recovering as he suffered an injury in the match against Celta Vigo on 2nd October. Thus, he has not joined the Mexican squad, but his injury is not serious, and he is expected to make his return in the same good form after the international break.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have conveyed to the player their satisfaction with his performances. Bojan is attentive to his development, and as Barcelona look for a low-cost backup for Joao Cancelo, he is already on the club’s agenda.
