Difficult moments usually bring forth the stronger characters in a group, and this was certainly the case with FC Barcelona as they lost the match against Real Madrid last Saturday.
After the match, Ilkay Gundogan, who won the treble only last season, spoke candidly about the issues he saw with the team and criticised the team’s attitude. His comments showed that he was a captain without an armband in the team.
Gavi critical of team’s attitude
But according to SPORT, Gundogan was not the only player who spoke about the team’s deficiencies after the match. Gavi, who is still only nineteen years old, was also critical of the team’s attitude as he made clear after the match:
“The game is decided by details. The first goal makes the difference. We can’t be so sluggish in those situations. After that, we fell apart.”
Despite his youth, Gavi has previously also showcased that he is a leader on the pitch, and is destined to become a captain of the team one day.
He gave a great performance against Real Madrid, as he put in his all to keep the threat of Jude Bellingham contained for the most part of the game, and also helped Gundogan in the offence.
Future captain of Barcelona
With his character, energy and passion, Gavi has become one of the most important players for Xavi this season. He has missed only one of the fourteen matches played this season, starting twelve of them, and the match missed was also because of a suspension.
Already, he has played 109 matches for Barcelona and another 25 with the Spanish national team. In most of these matches, his leadership skills have also been on clear display.
He is not afraid to call out even the veterans like Robert Lewandowski or the defenders, as happened in the game against Mallorca. And his emotions after the Real Madrid loss were enough to convince even the naysayers about his leadership quality and abilities to become a captain in the future.
