Even in a world full of superstars stealing the spotlight, FC Barcelona continues to value their youth. Perhaps previously the club had seemingly lost their way, but the Catalan club has now reignited their passion for trusting their own products. However, even at the youth level, Barcelona have their fair share of complications.
These complications mostly revolve around contractual issues and uncertainties, and that is where the club is looking to make some improvements. The most recent case of such a complication arose in the situation regarding Dani Rodríguez, a talented 18-year-old winger of Barcelona Atletic.
With previous reports emerging of there possibly being some issue that could push the player away from the club, there was definitely room for concern at Barcelona. Fortunately, it now appears that the club and the young winger will be able to agree on feasible terms after all.
According to SPORT, Barcelona now finally has the blessing of the player to renew his contract. Both parties involved have reached a full agreement for his renewal despite the incoming offers from not just Spanish clubs, but also other European sides hoping to take away his services.
The likes of Athletic Club and Real Sociedad were the names emerging from Spain in regards to interested clubs. Rodriguez just so happens to belong to the Basque region of Spain, and that is why he was a rather enticing target for Athletic Club, who have traditionally only recruited players from the Basque region.
Originally, Dani Rodriguez was going to see his contract expire at the end of June, but that will not be of concern any longer. Despite there being interest even from the likes of Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, the player has decided to continue with Barcelona and will be playing for Barça Atletic next season.
However, while Barcelona did reportedly have the opportunity to unilaterally extend his contract for two years, the club decided against taking that approach. Due to the possibility of future legal concerns popping up if they went down that route, Barcelona chose to steer clear of it regardless.
Now, Rodriguez can help Spain in the Under-19 European Championship with a clear headspace. Already having sorted out his future with Barcelona, he can now focus on being one of his nation’s standout players at the continental tournament. He has already showcased his immense talents at club level, particularly in the UEFA Youth League, and can now do it at an international level as well.
