Barcelona receive praise from fierce rivals

Domestically, the current season can be seen as a success for FC Barcelona as they have won the La Liga title after several years and have also won the Spanish Supercup title. Xavi and his team deserve a lot of credit for these achievements, keeping in view the generally difficult times for the club.

While the club’s fans and decision-makers have been pretty satisfied with Xavi and his team’s performance, the Barcelona squad has also received praise from some unlikely quarters recently.

Real Madrid’s official website reports Ancelotti’s recent quotes in which he has praised Barcelona’s performances this season. The Real Madrid head coach praised Barcelona, particularly for their lack of mistakes this season, their consistency in the league, and their water-tight defense.

Ancelotti’s praise for the team seems honest, as Barcelona have actually shown these virtues on the pitch this season. While not at its best on the attacking front, the team has been particularly impressive in the defensive and midfield areas, no not many mistakes were observed in these areas over the season, particularly in La Liga matches.

Similarly, the team had been highly consistent in the league, having won 27 of their matches, drawn 4, and lost 5. Two of these five losses have come only in the last two matches after the team had already wrapped up the league title, and there was nothing special to fight for.

The team’s backline of Kounde, Araujo, Christensen, and Balde has also been highly impressive this season, as they kept opposition attackers at bay during their triumphant La Liga run, conceding only 18 goals throughout the league season.

However, the current season is almost over, and FC Barcelona should be looking forward to replicating and building on these successes in the future. Being competitive in Europe should now be the target while also aiming to retain their top position domestically.
