FC Barcelona are constantly working on closing multiple contractual situations at the moment, keeping in mind their economic situation. The club has discussed the possibility of incoming transfers such as the likes of Lionel Messi, wage reductions and deferrals amongst its players, and even the potential sales of some players to generate revenue.

In the most recent of updates by the ever-so-reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, it appears that Sergio Busquets is now more or less guaranteed to stay another season with the Catalan giants. This news comes through following a couple of weeks where uncertainty over this situation regarding Busquets was starting to pile up.

FC Barcelona needed to sort and finalize the renewal of Busquets so as to be aware of what kind of reinforcements they should focus on in the summer transfer window. Should the Barcelona captain not have renewed or decided not to, the club would then also be in the market for acquiring the services of a new pivot, someone who could be used to replace Busquets, a very tall order in itself with the likelihood of its success not being that favorable.

This news comes as a huge positive not just to the individual perspective of Sergio Busquets staying, but also as a holistic benefit to FC Barcelona. The renewal would allow La Blaugrana to retain the services of a player that understands the core concepts of play within the club arguably better than anyone else in the club right now.

Moreover, he would also be able to accommodate and act as a mentor to the youngsters that are getting to learn from. Lastly, the midfielder’s decision to renew could potentially also serve as a huge positive in the attempt to bring Lionel Messi back to the club.

The Spaniard and the Argentine have remained teammates for a vast portion of their respective careers, and would likely appreciate and welcome the opportunity to play alongside one another and bring about the twilights of both their magnificent careers together at FC Barcelona.
