Barcelona willing to spend €40 million on Premier League pivot

As this season comes to an end, FC Barcelona are already looking ahead to the future. La Blaugrana know that this ongoing campaign has been disappointing, but they hope to correct this in the next season. Despite their obvious financial issues, Barcelona know they still have to compete regardless.

This season, one of Barça’s biggest worries was their pivot position. The departure of Sergio Busquets left them quite vulnerable in that specific position, and they have tried to work their way around that problem through the use of alternatives and even the signing of Oriol Romeu.

However, those options have not managed to convince Barcelona. Yet, one name that does convince Barcelona director Deco is that of Amadou Onana, the current defensive midfielder of English Premier League side Everton. Moreover, as highlighted by SPORT, Deco already has an offer for him.

The Brazilian director really seems to appreciate the 22-year-old Senegalese midfielder who currently plays for the Belgian National team. However, his arrival will not exactly be easy for Barcelona to make a reality, but Deco is convinced that he is the right profile Barça needs.

His physical strength, a profile reminiscent of Yaya Toure for Deco, is the kind of player he wants in the Barcelona midfield. Xavi, previously, requested a more technical answer but with the Spaniard now leaving at the end of the season, Deco has taken the initiative to make some calls by himself.

At the moment, Everton is demanding at least €60 million for their star pivot. For Barcelona, this price is understandably quite high given their economic problems, and thus, they would be unwilling to go to such lengths.

However, Deco has assured the player that the club would be willing to spend €40 million for his transfer, and if Everton are willing to agree to that amount, he assures him of a place at the club.

On the other hand, there is still uncertainty about which coach is going to take over after Xavi. Without that information, it seems kind of early to invest on a pivot who may or may not even be to the liking of the new Barcelona head coach.
