The wonderkids of Barcelona continue to shine on any platform and within any team that they play for. Blessed with talent and developed by the best academy in world football, La Masia’s stars seldom disappoint. However, some manage to surprise well beyond the heights of others.
One player in particular who took the Blaugrana world by storm was Marc Guiu. A 17-year-old striker who plays for the subsidiary, he helped Xavi’s team win all three points against Athletic Bilbao. Introduced in a game where no goals had been scored, it took him close to 33 seconds to add one for Barça.
Guiu keeps smiling
A few days later from then, as highlighted by SPORT, the player has even more reason to celebrate. Just as he ran with a huge smile on his face after scoring against Bilbao, he has now done the exact same thing after scoring for Barcelona Atletic against Osasuna B. Moreover, this goal came at a particularly late point in the game, intensifying the emotions as well.
Having won the game for the first team previously, he now won it for Barcelona Atletic. With the game stalled at 1-1, Guiu erupted in additional time and scored a cracker with his left foot. He then proceeded to smile just as he did against Bilbao, running into his celebration.
International opportunity
His great work across both the subsidiary and the first team has earned him international fame. Soon, he will even embark with the national team for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup in Indonesia. The tournament itself could prove to be a great competition for the player to develop even further.
Thus far, he has scored 7 official goals for Barcelona already. Five of his goals came for Juvenil A, one for the Barcelona first team and then his latest for Barcelona Atletic, marking his respective firsts for both Xavi’s side and Rafa Marquez’s Barça Atletic as well.
