FC Barcelona could only get a draw in their last La Liga match against Granada. The Catalans saw themselves go down two goals before the half-hour mark but were able to fight back, eventually scoring two goals, to draw the match.
The first of Barcelona’s goals was scored by the teenager Lamine Yamal, who became the youngest goal scorer in La Liga history with his goal from close range. The second goal was scored by the captain, Sergi Roberto, who has not been seeing the pitch too much this season.
Yamal on his record and the game
As SPORT has reported, both these players spoke to the media after the match and commented on different aspects of the draw. Yamal was happy with his goal and the record, but his happiness was diluted as Barcelona did not get all three points:
“I’m very happy about the goal and the record, but I have a bittersweet feeling because we drew a match that we needed to win…. I wasn’t thinking about the record, just about coming back in the match.”
Yamal was worried about the points Barcelona have dropped to teams like Getafe, Mallorca, and Granada but was satisfied with the improvement the team has shown and hoped the injured players can return to the team soon:
“We’ve faced very intense teams on their home turf, but little by little, we will improve and achieve better results. There’s a lot of fixture congestion, but I hope that after the break, we can all be back again.”
Roberto on the offside goal
The captain, Sergi Roberto, raised the issue with one of the very controversial calls in the game, i.e., the offside given to rule out Joao Felix’s goal in the last minutes of the match, which would have won Barcelona the game, but was clear that Barcelona needed to do their work well before the final minutes:
“I didn’t see the offside live, but watching it on television, I’m not sure if Ferran intervened. In any case, we have to do our homework beforehand.”
Roberto claimed that Barcelona were playing for the full points, but the match did not go exactly to their expectations:
“We were only counting on a victory, but we found ourselves 2-0 down very quickly.”
Thus, Yamal has made another record in La Liga, and this will be a memorable night for him. However, Barcelona should also not forget this night in a hurry and should learn their lessons from this game to avoid more such draws in a title race that is already looking very tight.
