In a massively surprising turn of events, there is positive news once again for those who follow FC Barcelona. The club’s current Director of Football, Mateu Alemany, has decided to stay with the club.

The man who, alongside Joan Laporta, has restructured a once deteriorating FC Barcelona into title contenders once more, Barca owes a lot to Alemany. The news that he would be leaving the club after the summer window was taken as a massive step in the wrong direction for the club, one that could have had negative consequences.

Now as per multiple reports, including news from trusted Catalan journalist Gerard Romero and trusted Italian transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the once-leaving Director of Football has instead decided to change his mind and is now going to continue with FC Barcelona as originally planned.

Thought to have various disagreements on the management and recruitment that the Spanish club was moving towards, the 60-year-old was expected to change scenery and go to the English Premier League where he would reportedly be leading Aston Villa towards a reformation of sorts of their own.

Moreover, as Deco was originally reported to be arriving as a replacement for Mateu Alemany, it in fact turns out that the Portuguese man will instead be replacing the departing Jordi Cruyff as the Sporting Director of the club rather than Alemany himself.

As per Samuel Marsden and Fabrizio Romano, Mateu Alemany had everything lined up with Aston Villa, and a principle agreement in place, but according to the news from the latter, no official document was signed and the current Director of Football for FC Barcelona since has changed his mind following the news of his departure.

Already having assured Joan Laporta and the rest of the club that he intends to see out this summer’s transfer window before inevitably departing, this news now ensures the continuity of Alemany beyond just this summer, with Deco now acting as his helping hand through it following the departure of Jordi Cruyff.
