Barcelona and the rest of the footballing world is an unpredictable place. Consistency and regularity are often thrown out the window when it comes to football and it’s many surprises. However, Barcelona and several other clubs still find themselves having their seasons predicted from many perspectives.

While these predictions, by no means, should be taken as anything more than simply a reflection or an educated guess, they still offer a look at what the interpretation and trajectory of an ongoing season looks like. For Barcelona, this can be important in helping them improve their current ways.

As highlighted by MARCA, sports analytics company OPTA has just revealed their percentage chances of the favorites for both La Liga and the Champions League. This is based on an algorithm that aims to predict current trajectories of both the teams concerned and their respective opponents.

For Barcelona, the predictions are far from being hopeful ones, however. In La Liga, the Catalan giants have been given a mere 1.9% chance to end this campaign as La Liga champions. On the other hand, Real Madrid are overwhelming favorites with a 90.5% chance of becoming Champions. Girona, in second place, have a 6.5% chance.

In terms of finishing second, Girona are the strongest contenders with a 50.2% chance. For Barcelona, Opta believes that the most likely finish will be third place. In this particular scenario, the Catalan giants have been a 36.6% chance to finish in that bronze spot.

Over in the UEFA Champions League, however, Barcelona have been given a fighting chance. Despite their matchup against Italian side Napoli being a tough one in the Round of 16, Opta believes that La Blaugrana has what it takes to be the side that moves to the quarter finals.

To be precise, they have been given a 60% chance of winning against Napoli. While Napoli’s 40% chance of making it past Barcelona is no weak probability either, Opta still nudges Barça as slight favorites for the encounter.
