One of the major objectives for FC Barcelona in the summer transfer window was to offload the players not needed by Xavi. Doing this was essential for the club which has been facing FFP problems related to their wage bill for some years now.
Some of the players were sold permanently, while others went out only on a loan. Currently, Barcelona has six players on loan at different clubs throughout Europe, and all these players have had different differing levels of success in their new sides.
Mundo Deportivo has provided a report on how these players are faring this season, and its main findings are provided below:
Clement Lenglet (Aston Villa)
After having tried to offload him throughout the summer, Barcelona were finally able to send him on loan to Aston Villa and thus significantly lightened their wage bill. The defender has not been able to convince his new manager though, as up to now he has only played ninety minutes only in a Conference League match against Legia Warsaw, which his side lost 3-2.
Eric Garcia (Girona)
While Xavi wanted him to stay, Eric Garcia left Barcelona in search of regular game time and joined Girona on a loan till June 2024. Garcia has become a fixed starter for Michel, and barring his first match, he has started all the four matches with Girona, even scoring to get his side the victory against Villarreal.
Sergino Dest (PSV Eindhoven)
Barcelona found it very difficult to find another club for Dest in the summer, but PSV Eindhoven took the risk with him and now he is getting the minutes that he was denied in his last loan to Milan. He has been an undisputed starter for his team in the UEFA Champions League and has also played significant minutes in the Eredivisie. However, he has been rested in the last two league matches.
Pablo Torre (Girona)
While Garcia has become a fixed starter for Michel, Pablo Torre is still getting only the fringe minutes at his new club. He has featured in six games up to now, but these appearances sum up only to 88 minutes.
Julian Araujo (Las Palmas)
The Mexican has been able to nail a fixed starting position in his new club, and has already played 500 minutes in seven games up to now. However, he missed the game against Celta due to a discomfort, but the former Barcelona Athletic coach, Garcia Pimienta, has full confidence in him.
Ansu Fati (Brighton)
Ansu Fati is facing stiff competition at Brighton to get a starting spot, and has started only one game in the EFL Cup. In the Premier League, he has featured in three games, coming in the second half in all of these games, but has already scored a goal against Aston Villa.
