FC Barcelona are set to take on Cadiz CF in the second game of their La Liga 2023/2024 campaign after their initial encounter against Getafe that resulted in a goalless draw on Barca’s opening game of the campaign, as they now look to take away all three points at home.
However, there were certain repercussions of the previous outing that will also carry over to this game. In particular, the red card shown to Brazilian winger Raphinha will result in his suspension for two games, and Xavi will have the dilemma of having to choose his replacement for the Cadiz clash.
According to SPORT, Xavi considers his various options and within those options, the chances of 16-year-old Lamine Yamal starting will also not be discarded, although primarily it seems like Ferran Torres may be likely to start.
The Spaniard is arguably the most comfortable first-team player on the right wing and his participation may automatically become relevant if Xavi does indeed choose to stick to his preferred formation and system, with the Barcelona winger having played at right-wing previously as well.
Ez Abde is also another option that the Catalan coach could end up relying upon, but the idea of Lamine Yamal, who is naturally left-footed and a right-winger, could be attractive since he realistically replaces Raphinha trait for trait with some of his own unique abilities sprinkled on top.
Moreover, the fact that Xavi decided to count on the youngster before bringing on Ansu Fati or Gavi showcases the faith in his abilities from the perspective of the Barcelona coach.
While Fati and Gavi also have a chance to start, especially since Gavi’s inclusion could even be on the left-wing as a false winger either way given that he is a Barcelona player quite familiar and comfortable playing that role should Xavi wish to count on it.
Apart from Raphinha, Xavi himself will also be unavailable in the technical area due to suspension and Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo will also miss close to a month of football for Barcelona due to an injury.
