It is no secret that FC Barcelona possesses some of the great midfielders of today. La Blaugrana have historically been blessed with excellent midfield options, and that remains true even today. In fact, even after the departure of Sergio Busquets, Barcelona remain well equipped there.
While the pivot position may be difficult to properly reinforce, the interiors that they possess are enviable. The likes of Gavi, Frenkie De Jong, Ilkay Gundogan, Fermin Lopez, and others are excellent options in their own respective right.
However, perhaps the crown jewel of not just the midfield but of Barcelona as a whole is 21-year-old Spanish midfielder Pedri. The young Canary Islander is among the few and selective Golden Boys of world football, and his talents and quality speak for themselves.
Yet, there does exist one particular complaint for him from the club and Xavi Hernandez. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, perhaps the one area in which Pedri seems to lack is the being the one to put the nail in the coffin.
This basically refers to the fact that despite being a creative hub for the team, he is rarely the one to score goals or have the chances he provides be converted.
Thus, Xavi wants his Spanish wonderkid to find those statistics more often. He already had a target set for him by the coach, instructing him that he should at least have double figures in goals and assists. However, he has thus far been unable to get to those numbers, but he has also been hindered by injuries.
Now, with close to only a few games left this season, it may be hard for Pedri to reach those numbers yet again. At the moment, he has 2 goals and 3 assists to his name, and 14 games left in La Liga, and a minimum of two in the UEFA Champions League. However, with him having regained his momentum and best levels, he can help the team a lot.
