Xavi spoke about Rubiales, Setien, Pedri’s injury, Lewandowski’s form, Ferran’s commitment, Abde’s role, signing a right-back, Kounde’s position, Balde’s availability, and his renewal during his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona vs Villarreal.

Xavi on the game against Villarreal:

“Setien and Villarreal have a similar idea to ours. They’re a well-equipped team in the midfield, they can dominate the game, we’ll need to take the ball from them, press their defensive line, press in their half… It will be crucial to have possession.”

Xavi on Pedri’s injury:

“The injury is similar to what he had before. We’ll see how he feels to determine his return. He’s a player who takes care of himself, and he’s done an extraordinary job of gaining muscle mass, but there are many variables: the matches, the heat… what we try to do is prevent injuries and try to avoid them from happening again. But it’s part of the game and sports in general.”

Xavi on his situation:

“I’m calm, happy, I’m at the club I love. I’ve always said it, It’s a privilege to be here. In my case, nothing changes.”

Xavi on Lewandowski’s form:

“I’m calm. He’s fine and eager to contribute in terms of goals, but he brings us other things too. He’s not as effective as he has been before, but he will score. I’m happy, he looks happy and content.”

Xavi on Abde’s role:

Players need to understand that it’s not as important to be a starter or a substitute. The other day, we won largely because of the five who came out in the second half. I’m very pleased with him, I like him a lot, as a professional and a person. I count on him. He can help us a lot during the season. There are no starters or substitutes from midfield onwards.”

Xavi on singing a right-back ( Joao Cancelo ):

“We’ll see, depending on fair play as always. Economically, we find ourselves in the situation we’re in, unfortunately. We’re open to the market. The sports management team is well aware of what we need.”

Xavi on his renewal:

“It’s still perfect. There’s no issue. Everything is calm, happy, and in perfect harmony with the sports department and the president. The staff is delighted to work here, and there won’t be any problem.”

Xavi on Balde’s availability:

“He’s available, it’s a knock, no injury.

Xavi on Referees:

“Since we’re opening up the locker room and the hydration break, why not open up conversations with the referees too? That way, we’ll see if they really call what they see. I’d like to hear from the referees as well.”

Xavi on Ferran Torres:

“He’s an example of how he works, how he trains. The last match is proof of that. And he needs to be prepared to be at the service of the team.”

Xavi on playing Kounde as a right-back:

“We talked at the end of last season. And both of us were very clear. The player should be where the team needs him. He’s a natural leader, sets the line, can adapt, and is always a guarantee. His signing was spectacular.”

Xavi on Rubiales:

“First of all, I want to give my unconditional support to Jenni and the women’s football players. Secondly, I want to condemn the behavior of the president of the Federation, which I find unacceptable. And thirdly, I’m saddened that the historic achievement of the World Cup isn’t being talked about, and instead, this intolerable behavior is in the spotlight.”
