A dominant victory for Barcelona sees them overcome Getafe with a 4-0 scoreline. Despite only marginally overcoming opponents in recent games, Barça showed a much more clinical side of themselves this time. Ultimately, the victory will leave both Xavi Hernandez and the fans of Barcelona equally happy.

Many performances were worth talking about, but some clearly stood out more than others. However, during the game itself, Barcelona played like a team completely motivated to play together under Xavi’s orders and ensure victory for the team.

After the match, as highlighted by SPORT, Xavi talked about several key topics after the game in his post-match media talk.

Speaking first about the match itself, the Barcelona coach made sure to highlight the positives that his team put on display and just how convinced he was with the performance:

“I’m happy for many reasons. It’s a very complete match in attack and defense. We matched their intensity and knew how to exploit space many times. We managed to escape Getafe’s high pressure. It was a convincing match from the team.”

Xavi also talked about the upcoming game against Athletic Club and how this victory provides the team some relief moving forward:

“Very satisfied with the team’s effort. It’s a victory that gives us a bit more calm to think about Athletic.”

Moreover, the Barcelona coach also discussed how well Joao Felix and Raphinha played together. Xavi also talked about how exactly his team managed to exploit Getafe’s weaknesses:

“We were looking for a reason. Raphinha and Joao find space very well. They have more ability than a fourth midfielder. We had to take advantage of Getafe’s backline, and they knew how to do it.”

A player he did single out for his performance was Frenkie De Jong, however. The Dutchman had a very complete performance against Getafe, and Xavi made sure to highlight it:

“Frenkie is very self-demanding. He always wants to perform at a ten, and it’s not always possible. He is very demanding, and that’s why he is one of the best in the world.”

Speaking about Barça’s La Liga hopes, Xavi stated that the team does not intend to slow down. The Barcelona team and coach remain attentive towards the progression of their rivals, but they will continue to fight their own battles:

“I already said that we wouldn’t give up. We know that we have to get three points. Last matchday was very good, and now we will be very attentive to what Real Madrid and Girona do.”
