Certain players within FC Barcelona are now considered surplus to requirements following a lengthy and exhaustive summer transfer window that saw the Catalan giants incorporate new signings to reinforce their team for the 2023/2024 season.
The arrival of players such as Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez, Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye, and the expected incorporation of Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo sees Barcelona having added a good amount of defensive signings into their side this summer.
As a result, certain players within the defensive regions of the team are likely to lose even more prominence if they had already before. French defender Clement Lenglet has already left Barcelona for Premier League side Aston Villa on loan in the hopes of gaining additional minutes.
Another player that seems likely to be guaranteed little to no minutes this season is 22-year-old Spanish central defender Eric Garcia, who is now being linked to a move away from FC Barcelona on loan before the end of the transfer window.
According to Spanish journalist Nil Sola (h/t Barca Times), the former Manchester City defender is closer than ever to reaching an agreement with La Liga side Girona as he continues to push for a move away from the Catalan club in order to be guaranteed more regular playing time.
Barcelona and Girona reportedly continue to negotiate the terms of his loan move before a final agreement is reached, one which is expected by sources to be completed before the end of the window and consequently see Eric Garcia leave FC Barcelona temporarily in order to showcase his talents elsewhere.
Having arrived from Manchester City in 2021 as a free transfer, his time in FC Barcelona has been sort of a mixed bag in terms of the quality that he has displayed as well as the consistency that he has offered while donning the Blaugrana colors. It will be interesting to see how he develops with Girona in the scenario that his transfer ends up materializing.
