Barcelona midfield target Sofyan Amrabat

26-year-old Serie A midfielder continues to push for a move, Barcelona remains the priority

Barcelona have found it to be an arduous endeavor replacing the legendary Sergio Busquets, as a glaring void lies in the defensive midfield department. However, the Catalans are unwilling to forfeit their search for a pivot, as much as their drained finances have made this a Sisyphean effort.

The club made inquiries about several high-profile defensive midfielders but was unable to afford the likes of Zubimendi, Kimmich, and Brozovic. As such, they now appear to be diverting their attention to alternatives.

One of the names that has long been on Barcelona’s radar is Sofyan Amrabat. According to SPORT, although Amrabat is essentially ruled out for the Catalan giants, anything may happen in the market. The Moroccan is said to prefer an elevation in his career and has sought a leap to a bigger club.

Oriol Romeu seems to be the chosen one by Barcelona, but they are aware that Amrabat is still a valid option. If the club is able to foresee exits, the midfielder’s arrival would be a lot more feasible. Still, any movement for the Moroccan would necessitate a complete reduction in the transfer price.

Fiorentina continue to demand a steep figure of €30 million, a fee that the Catalans, at this moment in time, find difficult to afford. However, considering Amrabat was not allowed to leave for Barcelona in the previous winter transfer window, there have been talks of the Italian side facilitating his departure with more reason.

Although the interested clubs have not yet confirmed this approach, there is a certain commitment to make it simpler for him if a significant offer comes in.

Amrabat came very close to joining Barcelona in January, but Fiorentina refused to agree to a loan with a mandatory purchase option. If the player proceeds to persist in a move to Barcelona, the operation could finally bear fruit.
