It is no surprise that FC Barcelona are still in the market as they look for new recruits. The Catalan club has long since needed new arrivals in order to improve a side clearly lacking in certain positions. However, due to various reasons, there is always one obstacle or another in the way of Barcelona.
At the moment, however, La Blaugrana hope to incorporate a new midfielder who already possesses elite footballing abilities and experience as well. One such name for Barcelona has undoubtedly been that of Joshua Kimmich. The German midfield star ticks all the boxes for what Barça is currently looking for.
However, despite the heavy links to both Barcelona and even PSG, Kimmich remains clear about his short-term objective. As highlighted by SPORT, the 28-year-old has no intentions of moving away from the Bavarian giants in January:
“I’m only focused on Bayern. For me, in January, this is not an issue at all. I think that at some point the club will approach me and we will discuss it with each other and not with you (addressing a journalist).”
With these rather straightforward words, Kimmich has definitely made his short-term plans clear. The real opportunity and window for him to leave will undoubtedly arrive in the summer, however. Given that he will soon be leaving his prime, it is easily the best moment for him to make that leap over to another European giant.
Moreover, given that his contract expires in 2025, he would also be able to give Bayern some financial compensation for his transfer if he leaves in 2024. However, for Barcelona, his price tag will still be something that ultimately needs to be negotiated.
On the other hand, despite the internal issues between Kimmich and the Bayern management, the Bavarians are not against the idea of renewing the German pivot. However, thus far, reports suggest that no advances have been made on that front.
