FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are eternal rivals on the pitch, and very few can deny that. These two El Clasico adversaries have a storied history of fierce competition and are expected to maintain this intense rivalry for years to come.
However, showing solidarity has also found a place at times between Barcelona and their rivals from Madrid. On various occasions in the past, whenever a player from one club suffers an intense injury the rival entity or its players do sometimes send messages of positivity.
In the case of Gavi’s injury this season, it was reported that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez also sent words of encouragement to the player.
Now, the latest casualty for Real Madrid happens to be none other than Austrian defender David Alaba. In their latest fixture against Villarreal, the 31-year-old defender went down with a knee injury. It is now confirmed that the injury in this case was a rupture to his anterior cruciate ligament.
Consequently, it is now expected that the player will undergo surgery and miss the rest of the 2023/24 season. However, a certain Polish striker from Barcelona just so happens to have shared clubs with the Austrian for many seasons in Germany.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona ace Robert Lewandowski publicly sent a positive message to his former Bayern Munich teammate. Posting a picture of the two together from a pre-season El Clasico, the Pole put up the caption: “Stay Strong, David Alaba”
Having spent seven seasons together at the Bavarian club, the duo accomplished quite a lot together. Moreover, both players continue to respect one another and hold each other in high regard. Despite now playing for eternal rivals, the former Bayern players both seem to be on good terms.
With Alaba now out for the rest of the season, Real Madrid’s plans become complicated. One of their starting central defenders, the absence of the Austrian will have to be accounted for in one way or another.
