Barcelona possesses no shortage of talented young starlets waiting to make their mark with the first team. The Catalan giants are rather blessed with quality within their academy and their subsidiary. However, due to certain developments, some players get more chances than others to display their qualities.
One starlet that has truly taken Europe by storm due to his spectacular cameo for Barcelona was Marc Guiu. The 17-year-old striker made fans around the world chant his name when he scored a crucial winner against Athletic Bilbao.
Guiu’s alternative
However, he will soon become unavailable for La Blaugrana for a decent duration. As he travels with Spain to Indonesia for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup, Barça will have to look elsewhere for depth.
Fortunately for them, they have yet another prodigious striker within the quarry. As highlighted by SPORT, Guiu’s absence could mark an opportunity for Pau Victor. A 21-year-old striker currently on loan from Girona, he has been fundamental for Barcelona Athletic this season.
Versatile goalscorer
The forward, capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, has a great tally in front of goal this season. Having scored 6 goals in 9 games, providing two assists along the way, the Spaniard is in fine form. However, due to the emergence of Guiu, he has not had the spotlight focused on him that much.
Injured stars return
He has a purchase option in his loan deal worth €3 million. In terms of value, it would be a smart investment for a promising player. However, his inclusion within the first team even after Guiu’s imminent departure remains complicated.
Now that Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha have returned, it seems unlikely that more subsidiary call-ups will be needed.
Despite that, Barcelona can rest assured that they have an incredible talent to count on if the need arises. His technical qualities are different from the explosive abilities of Guiu, but he remains a great striker who will stay ready in case Xavi Hernandez ever needs his help.
