FC Barcelona have one of the most important matches of this season awaiting them as they take on Paris Saint Germain in their upcoming Champions League quarter-final match.
As already reported, Xavi will be without several players for this match, but there were hopes that three of these players can recover in time for this game, and provide some much-needed relief to the Barcelona head coach.
Now, there is some good news for Xavi and the Culers at large as SPORT reports that the midfielder Frenkie de Jong is about 99% recovered from his injury, and also took part in the last training session along with his teammates. Thus, he is highly likely to be a part of the squad for the PSG match in Paris.
The club did not announce his return to training with the group, although it is customary for the Catalan club to announce on its public platforms whenever a player returns from injury to rejoin group training.
Xavi has scheduled a friendly training match for this weekend, which will provide an opportunity for Pedri to test his feelings. Frenkie de Jong will also avail this opportunity, but in his case, it is already almost guaranteed that he will be available for the upcoming game. Only an unexpected setback in the coming days can jeopardize this possibility.
However, the question that now arises is about the role that Xavi will give Frenkie de Jong in this match. Andreas Christensen has also missed the last few matches due to injury, and he is also expected to return to his makeshift midfield pivot role against PSG.
Playing Frenkie from the start will mean playing two players who have only returned from the sidelines playing a very high-intensity game. Thus, Xavi can use him as a substitute, but his feelings in the coming training session will provide further indications to Xavi on how to use him.
