FC Barcelona were able to overcome a difficult Cadiz team last night to get the full three points and remain alive in the race for the La Liga title this season. This win came on the backdrop of their morale-boosting win over Paris Saint Germain in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
In that game against PSG, Barcelona showed a high sense of resilience as they came back from behind to win the match against one of the top teams in Europe. These two wins once again showed the team’s changed mentality, which allows them to keep fighting till the very end.
As Mundo Deportivo has noted, this change of mentality was notable as four different Barcelona players highlighted this aspect of the team as they talked to the media after the match against Cadiz.
Joao Felix, whose goal won Barcelona this match, mentioned how winning the match was nowhere near easy, and the team had to suffer to get the full three points:
“We played a very good game, and it’s not an easy field, but we did well from the first minute and knew how to suffer, which is also necessary sometimes. We suffered a lot, and maybe we should have controlled the game more, but Cádiz played well, and we have to consider that they are fighting for their lives.”
This feature of “suffering” was also commended by other Barcelona players like Fermin Lopez, Oriol Romeu, and Ferran Torres.
Lopez particularly highlighted how his team has improved over the last few years: “A year ago, it was unimaginable to be playing matches like the ones coming up this week against PSG and Real Madrid.”
These comments from the players highlight how Barcelona have improved their mentality to a significant level. Thus, the fans can be hopeful that the team has fully left the horrors of the losses against Roma, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich behind them, and is ready to once again compete with the top European sides without any fear.
