FC Barcelona continue to make progress in their own right regarding their ongoing financial woes and struggles. Despite the obvious attempts at doing so, there remain doubts about the club’s finances even now.
Following the approval of the Financial feasibility plan, the Catalans are still struggling to implement the necessary courses of action that they must to bring that plan to fruition.
A former legend of Barcelona and current owner of his own “King’s League”, Gerard Pique, has himself made comments regarding the aforementioned scenario and doubts as well as implying certain contentions.
The player left midway through the 2022/2023 season and even agreed to forego a significant portion of his remaining salary, both current and deferred. Having been at the club for almost 14 years and having won many titles during his time there, the player holds a special place in the hearts and history books of La Blaugrana.
Moreover, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba would then go on to leave as well on similar terms, agreeing to not take with them significant chunks of their contracted salaries as well to aid the club in their financial struggles. Consequently, as reported by SPORT, Pique stated keeping these occurrences in mind:
I’m glad I left because I gave Barça space on the salary scale. But it seems that, despite this, there are still financial problems. I wonder who should go now. They said that we are responsible for our salaries (Piqué, Busquets, Alba). Now, we’ve all left and yet they can’t sign players.
The comments made by Gerard Pique are sure to stir up controversy and make people question the current operations ongoing within the club. It seems even after having retired from the pitch, Pique cannot seem to be much far away from the world of football and its dealings.
