FC Barcelona currently have a highly stacked attacking line, making it difficult for any one of the forwards to put a stake on a fixed starting role except Lewandowski. This is still the case despite Barcelona offloading some of its forwards in the recently closed market.
Two of the forwards from the Catalan club left Xavi’s team. Ez Abde joined Real Betis on a permanent transfer, while Ansu Fati joined Brighton and Hove Albion on a loan. Ousmane Dembele had left the club previously this summer, and now Raphinha, Ferran Torres, Lamine Yamal, and the new arrival, Joao Felix, compete for a single spot in the lineup.
Fati joins Brighton on loan
From among the players that have left Barcelona, Fati has the most intriguing case for the Camp Nou faithful. Firstly, the player has left the Catalan club only on a loan and has been clear that he wants to remain and succeed at Barcelona.
There is also much potential in him to be further developed, and Brighton was an interesting and good choice for the young forward to keep up his development.
One of the main advantages that Fati will enjoy with Brighton is that he will get to play in an atmosphere where there is enough pressure to keep him competitive, but not as much pressure as is faced by any Barcelona player.
Similarly, the Premier League is currently the best league in the world, and having an experience of this league will definitely help Fati grow as a player.
Roberto de Zerbi praises Fati
Lastly, playing under his new coach, Roberto de Zerbi, would be another advantage for Fati. De Zerbi is currently one of the most exciting coaches in football and has done a good job with his Brighton side in England. The Brighton coach also values Fati, as was clear from his recent comments (h/t Barca Times) on the player: “Football needs talent like Ansu Fati… it is footballing heritage.”
Thus, with De Zerbi’s trust in him, Fati will be looking to recoup the form that he showed earlier in his Barcelona career. However, this would not be entirely easy, as he faces competition for a starting spot at Brighton too, and will have to fight for minutes.
