Barcelona not too keen about offloading experimental pivot in the summer

The progression of FC Barcelona this season has been a rather inconsistent one in all honesty. Looking a bit lost at certain points of the campaign, and looking just as stable on other occasions. Ultimately, the stability that Barcelona now has is perhaps the best they have had all season.

Much of the praise for that has to go to Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez. Even though he may be parting ways with the club at the end of the season, his tactical tweaks and certain risks have truly paid off for the team. One of those tweaks involves a certain Danish star.

Having lost Sergio Busquets previously, it became important for Barcelona to replace him with someone as the pivot. Many tried, and many failed, but it was ultimately Andreas Christensen who became Barça’s best option. Now, with rumors running around suggesting a summer transfer, a new report suggests otherwise.

According to MARCA, given the current limitations of Barça’s transfer window, it is unlikely to see the Dane leave. Already restricted and not able to spend big, there is little to no room for transfer errors that do not end up working out. In Christensen’s case, Barcelona already have a decent option finally as their pivot.

However, it is still arguable that it is precisely due to their economic situation that Barcelona should look to offload Christensen. Having arrived as a free transfer, any revenue generated from his sale would be all profit. For Barcelona, that profit margin could end up going a long way.

For the moment, Christensen continues to focus on his current season with Barcelona. After his minor injury scare before the game against Atletico Madrid, the Danish defender has stayed behind to recover rather than join his compatriots during the international break.

Right afterwards, both the clash against PSG and Real Madrid await him. Barcelona will hope to recover their injured players by then, with the likes of Joao Cancelo and Ferran Torres also expected to be back, and Dutch star Frenkie De Jong also being on the verge of returning from his injury.
