Yesterday, the FC Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, publicly announced that Xavi Hernandez will not be leaving the club at the end of this season, as the coach had previously announced, and would remain in charge of the team for the upcoming season.
This latest announcement from the President will bring a significant degree of stability to the club, especially as it provides certainty to the players about who they will be working with for the next campaign. In fact, the players were reported to be clearly elated with this decision taken by Barcelona and Xavi.
However, according to SPORT, this elation was most readily visible in Pablo Gavi, the midfielder who is currently recovering from his long-term ACL tear and is expected to be back only in the next season. The midfielder did not repress his joy as the Catalan club announced Xavi’s continuity, and actually got in contact with the coach to express his happiness.
Since the appointment of Xavi Hernandez as the head coach at Barcelona, he has developed a special chemistry with Gavi. Thus, the injury blow that Gavi had to endure in November was a bigger blow for Xavi than what an outside observer could realize.
In addition to his personal relationship with the coach, Gavi is also convinced that Xavi is the best-suited coach for Barcelona at this time and that his continuity at the club is the best way forward. He cannot wait to be back available for the former midfielder, and thus is strongly motivated to return to training and the pitch as soon as possible.
Barcelona are currently looking for reinforcements to provide Xavi with a competitive squad for the next season. However, it is clear that the recovery of players like Gavi and Balde itself will be a huge boost for the coach, as these players were two of the key components of the team that won the La Liga title last season under Xavi.
