After some much-awaited news finally arrives, FC Barcelona can now look forward to a new adventure. The leaders of Barcelona, in conjunction with those of Real Madrid, have long stood with the realization of the Super League. However, Barcelona were reliant on the latest court hearing by the Court of Justice of the European Union being favorable.

Not too long ago, the Super League had other notable members too. The likes of Juventus, and several other top European teams, were also formerly a part of the project. Ultimately, however, they were thwarted away from it due to the threat of UEFA and FIFA.

However, the latest court ruling is what changes the landscape for both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. As highlighted by SPORT, the ruling aligns with the belief that both UEFA and FIFA have abused their power in a fashion similar to a monopoly.

As a result, the green light has now been given to the Super League project to begin anew. Accordingly, Barcelona and Real Madrid hope to establish a new league in its entirety. They even hope that it could possibly compete directly with the likes of the Champions League.

The best of the best from Europe are expected to take part in this competition. Moreover, the financial gain would be such that almost everyone would be on a level playing field.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta even previously labeled the Super League as a way to “save football”. Clubs in certain places, primarily the English teams, have reached a level of financial dominance that rarely can be matched by teams outside of the Premier League.

As a response, the Super League will now be a means to match that financial muscle. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are even reportedly going to gain close to €1 billion simply by being a part of the project as a whole. Following the ruling, Barcelona has released its own official statement regarding the ruling:

“In a year when the club is celebrating its 125th anniversary, Barça wishes to continue to offer its experience and knowledge of different sports to propose solutions for current issues in elite sport. That is why it is declaring its support for the Super League promoted by A22.”

“It encourages constructive debate among both domestic and international football bodies. Bodies which have now been endorsed by today’s sentence by the Court of Justice of the European Union. The foregoing is all subject to a complete reading of the sentence.
